Set Up Parental Controls With eero Secure

eero provides you with flexible wifi parental control features. Here are your options–and how to set it all up.

If you have eero from dinwifi.no or from your internet provider, the eero Secure service is included. Among other things, this service gives you stronger security control of your network and options to set up parental controls and ad blocking.

With eero Secure you can:

  • Schedule access to wifi
  • Enable age-based content filters maintained by eero
  • Block specific apps and/or websites

Most of these features require that you first set up one or more profiles in the eero app.

For example, you can have one profile for all devices used by the children in the household, or one profile per child. Note that each device may only be included in a single profile.

How To Create An eero Profile

  1. Launch the eero mobile app .
  2. Scroll down to Profiles and tap Add Profile .
  3. Give the profile an intuitive name, for example the name of the child that the profile will apply to.
  4. Select the device(s) you want to add to the profile from the list below the name field.
Note: You can only add devices that are already connected or have been connected to the network.
  5. Tap Done .
You are now ready to set up parental controls for this profile.

You can easily add more devices to a profile later, either by opening the profile, or by accessing the device under Devices .

Set Up Scheduled Wifi Access

You can schedule the restriction of access to wifi, for example at night. The eero app calls this a “scheduled pause”.

  1. From the profile page, tap Add a scheduled pause .
  2. You will now receive an automatic suggestion for a break called “Bedtime” from 20:00 to 06:00.
    1. Change the name and times as desired and needed.
    2. Choose the days for which to apply this scheduled pause (for example, Monday to Thursday and Sunday).
    3. Tap Save .

Repeat these steps to add more pauses for the same profile, such as a separate schedule for Friday and Saturday.

How To Turn On eero Content Filters

  1. From the profile page, in the Content controls section, tap Content Filters .
  2. From the list that opens, tap the level of filtering that you want to use as a starting point for this profile:
    • Adult (no filtering)
    • 13-18 years (blocks content categorized as violent, illegal or adult by eero)
    • 6-12 years (also blocks social media, messaging apps etc.)
    • 0-5 years (most restrictive, referred to as a “walled garden”)
  3. You will now see the default settings for the filter you have selected. Tap Apply .
  4. You now have the opportunity to adjust these settings to suit your own wishes and needs, for example
    • Block specific apps or websites
    • Allow specific sites (this will override eero’s filter if you think something is unduly blocked)
    • Toggle SafeSearch for Google and YouTube on and off
    • Control access to social media, streaming etc.
  5. Your changes are saved automatically. You can press Edit to reset to one of the default filters, otherwise just return to the profile page when you’re happy with your choices.

How To Block Apps And Websites For eero Profiles Without Enabling A Filter

You can also block apps or websites for a profile without applying one of eero’s filters first.

These are the steps:

  1. From the profile page, under Content controls , tap Block apps .
  2. You now get lists of popular apps in a number of categories (scroll sideways). Check the apps for which you want to block access and tap Save .
  3. From the profile page, under Content controls , tap Block & Allow Sites .
  4. Tap Add Blocked Site .
  5. Here you must enter each domain you do not want the profile to have access to. Tap Save for each domain.
    • Enter only the domain itself, not http, www, and so on
    • If you block a subdomain, only this level is blocked. (Example: xx.example.com)
    • If you block a domain, everything on the domain is blocked, including any subdomains. (Example: example.com)
    • If you block a top-level domain, absolutely all domains that use this top-level domain are blocked. (Examples: com, org)

How to Block Websites For Everyone On Your eero Network

You can also choose to block certain websites for anyone who logs into your home wifi.

These are the steps:

  1. From the eero app home page, scroll to Security & Privacy and tap to open.
  2. Tap Network Controls .
  3. Tap Block & Allow Sites and follow steps 4-5 above.
